Tenant Profile: Howard Parker, West Yorkshire Cameras

Whats your name and what do you do here at the Corn Exchange?

My name is Howard Parker - I just about manage to run West Yorkshire Cameras. Just.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Business has traditionally run in my family, from market stalls in Dewsbury to shops in Leeds, there’s almost sixty years of experience trading in Yorkshire to live up to, and now it’s my turn to carry the baton. My passion has always been in photography and cameras. The growl of a Harley does it for some people, jumping out of a plane does it for others – don’t ask me why, but the click of a camera does it for me!

What is your history with the building?

We moved into unit 19 back in 2013, and a couple of years back somehow found ourselves being successful enough to grow into the larger unit 2.

What is your favourite thing about working at the Corn Exchange?

{The height of the balcony is sufficient for me to jump off at any time if it all gets too much.} Being in one place with like minded small business owners of all sorts provides me with a wealth of information, feedback, discussion and advice I wouldn't be able to get otherwise. Also, I can get most of what I need without having to venture out into the outside world.

Tell us about your best day out in Leeds. Where do you go? What do you do?

I'm in the shop pretty much 24/7 - and when I'm not here I'm at home in bed - so I don't really have chance to go out and actually spend time in town, but the Leeds side streets that you slip down off Briggate are secretly full of pubs.
